1.3 Policies, Procedures, Programs & Funding
Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school, district, state, and federal technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the development, submission, and evaluation of formal grant proposals. (PSC 1.3/ISTE 1c)
Artifact: Technology Integration Grant Application Project
Standard 1.3 Reflection: Technology Integration Grant Application Project
The Technology Integration Grant Application Project was created for the Instructional Technology Leadership course. The purpose of the assignment was to explore the grant writing process by developing a mini-grant seeking five hundred dollars to fund an instructional need with a research based and innovative technology. The grant application sought additional funding to better equip the classroom of Buford Elementary’s interventionist to aid her in implementing needed interventions for the Response to Interventions program. Through careful research, I was able to recommend that the intervention migrate from disc-based usage to an online subscription format, which would extend access to the interventionist’s mobile devices, thus doubling the seats available.
The presented artifact demonstrates my ability to research and recommend innovative programs and funding strategies. The grant application calls for the use of the public educator funding website, DonorsChoose.org, to provide funding support for the requested migration of the HearBuilder series towards any online subscription format. Additionally, the grant application provides a detailed rationale of why the program is needed and an outline of the targeted skills, instructional objectives, and ELA Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. The artifact also highlights my abilities to facilitate implementation by providing a timeline with proposed app deployment, administrative account procedures, and induction procedures for the interventionist to sustain implementation of the modified intervention.
Through the completion of this artifact, I developed a greater awareness of the multitude of funding options available to educators. I developed a deeper appreciation of the complexities of grant writing and the knowledge and skills required to properly seek funding when local funding isn’t immediately available. Having gained a greater awareness of funding strategies and grant writing procedures, I feel that this experience will ultimately serve me well in the future, as skills such as these are necessary to being a successful technology leader. In retrospect, I would have included two funding strategies in my grant application instead of one to provide my administration with more choice. However, with that being said, one would be hard pressed to find a more convenient and prevalent funding solution for classroom teachers such as DonorsChoose.org.
The work that went into creating this artifact directly impacted school improvement for the 2015-2016 school year. Much of the information and work that went into the creation of the proposal was outlined in meetings with my assistant principal. The detailed outline and implementation strategies highlighted in the proposal ultimately convinced my administration that funding the HearBuilder online subscription was an acceptable program to put Title 1 dollars towards. Overall, the research and work that went into outlining all aspects of implementing this new intervention directly impacted both the interventionist and student participants of the Response to Intervention program. The success of this intervention has positively impacted learning outcomes for the 2015-2016 school year and can be assessed by the effectiveness of the continuous progress monitoring reporting solutions afforded to Buford Elementary’s Response to Intervention team. The intervention will continue to positively impact student learning for the 2016-2017 school year.
