3.3 Online & Blended Learning
Candidates develop, model, and facilitate the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators. (PSC 3.3/ISTE 3c)

Reflection:
Standard 3.3: Online and Blended Learning
The Online Learning Mini Module and Unit Plan were created for the Introduction to Online Learning course. The purpose of the assignment was to design a 6-8 week blended or online unit of instruction for a K12 classroom. For this artifact, I prepared an Online Learning Unit plan which contained six to eight modules of online or blended learning focusing on student content standards and student technology standards. Full development of the six to eight modules was required, but only one module was expected to be physically constructed for use. The Unit Plan was focused on engaging first graders in technology-focused learning experiences about cyber-safety and cyber-bullying and I chose to develop module two of a six-module sequence of online learning.
This artifact is aligned with and demonstrates mastery of the Online and Blended Learning standard. For the development of the mini module, I developed online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks. The construction of the Online Learning Mini Module and Unit Plan required consideration of how to effectively engage learners over the span of six to eight modules. Designing and developing the project required researching and vetting appropriate digital content to support student learning.
Further, the construction of module two required facilitating a fully online learning experience for my first grade students. Developing a fully online learning experience was a difficult task, as I had to analyze a variety of digital tools and assess which ones would afford the most success to my students. Ultimately, I arrived at using Padlet as the LMS solution for the module. Previously, I had utilized Padlet to support my ISTE Lesson Plan Project and saw success with that. I decided to use Padlet again as the armature for the project. In retrospect, I would likely not use Padlet again. I would use an alternative solution to support the online unit. While Padlet is easy to use, the user interface is minimalistic and this could ultimately inject confusion into navigating the resources within each module.
The creation of Online Learning Mini Module and Unit Plan taught me a great deal about developing, modeling, and facilitating online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks. For these reasons, I feel the artifact adequately represents that I have the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed by and educator to design, develop and implement an online or blended learning experience. Embedded within the online unit are a number of assessments including exit tickets and required discussion posts. These embedded assessment solutions could assess the impact of full implementation of this online learning experience.
