The field experiences involved in ITEC 7460 helped develop my skills as an ITC. By having to create a One-Hour Instructional Technology Workshop and coaching a partnering teacher, I was able to gain knowledge and dispositions that are necessary to being an effective ITC. My One-Hour Instructional Technology Workshop regarding Google Docs and Google Drawings was so successful that I was invited by the administration of our sister school, Buford Academy, to deliver the session to their faculty. I definitely felt that the success of the One-Hour Instructional Technology Workshop contributed to the change process of having faculty members develop the same level of comfort with Google Docs that they enjoy with Microsoft Office.
Additionally, I gained a lot of insight into assessing the effectiveness of technology and professional development in my school through the GAPSS analyses, which involved taking a closer look at both the school improvement plan and also completing the Georgia Department of Education GAPSS template. Both of these exercises are prime examples of skills required of effective technology leaders.
There were many great exercises in this class that contributed to my growth as an Instructional Technology Coach and leader. I highly valued the experience of the coaching sessions and journals, the workshop creation and implementation, and also the mystery blogger posts. All of these exercises were critical to my deeper understanding of the change processes and how to effectively leverage professional development towards positive learning outcomes for teachers and students.
